Here in the Netherlands, 11 of the 19 world-famous windmills on the Kinderdijk are due to be restored in the next few years. This country is proud of its pre-industrial engineering works – which used to help drain the land and stop it from flooding – but in spite of this strong tradition, the development of new wind turbines in the Netherlands has found it difficult to get off the ground.
